The entire mini wireless spy camera debate continues. Though many of us can see the value in preserving our personal privacy laws, just how and when should spy devices be used?
A newspaper article reported the misdeeds of a nanny. Perhaps you even saw it on the nightly television tabloids. The nanny was captured on a spy camera video shaking the baby. Talking roughly and bruising the child. This I believe was a good case for using the recording devices. Why? Quite simply the child would have never been able to tell the parents of the danger and abuse being heaped upon her. The nanny allegedly wanted to file a counter suit citing invasion on privacy.
You know that saving your child from the uncaring and dangerous nannies seems very allowable. But what would have happened had the employer informed the nanny that we have this home under surveillance.
Would the nanny have abused the child in some other place where she thought the cameras were not there? Would their admittance to the spy camera been a deterrent to them finding competent child care? I don’t think so. Because a person that is abiding by the employers wishes and the law need not fear the power of video cameras.
Hiring someone and telling them I have you under surveillance is normally not a good start for employment. The video may disturb the relationship you have with the employee. But we all are being watched in some way shape or fashion.
If you want to use the mini wireless spy camera don’t rely on it as the sole means of monitoring your employees. You should always do a thorough back ground check with references. It amazes me at how we often avoid the basics and fundamentals and hop right to some technology to save us.
